Goals of session
• Identify ways to ensure that the Service Department gets recognition
by higher management
• Recognize industry awards programs and ways to get recognized by
your peers
• Develop methods of recognizing and incentivizing hard works, even
on a tight budget
• Discover methods to motivate employees who are not self-motivated
Major Points Addressed in the session
1. Getting your boss to by into the program
Need to make your case. Have hard numbers to show.
Tracking what you do is the goal.
2. A program where you can put value on what you do
Some programs help with membership retention for those CVB’s who are
member based.
Program supports department goals as well as individual goals
Recognize employees for what they do.
3. Some employees aren’t concerned with more money but with more
time
Telecommuting as an alternative work arrangement
Office structure made it impossible to do work
Telecommuting allowed more productivity
Observation
The majority of the people in the room didn’t have a program in place,
however they were very interested in finding out about what other cities
are doing.
