Submitted by Marilyn Healey, CMP

Mark your calendars now for June 12 – 14, 2005, as ACOM has prepared an outstanding program of leadership and motivational sessions for its upcoming Summer Leadership Conference in Las Vegas. You will definitely get a “deal” from this program! Registration is $135.00 for the two-day event and the accommodations are Vegas spectacular!

THE PROGRAM
Developed by Conference Chair, Melinda Burnett, CMP, in conjunction with her committee members Diane McAdams, Philipa Blair, Marilyn Healey, Glenda Damian, Lourdes Lee, Marie Fuehner and Tim Cox, this year’s program promises to address the every-day questions, situations and needs of the Convention Services professional in all disciplines of the hospitality industry.

The two-day Leadership Program officially begins on Monday, June 13 th with the theme, “Get It Together.” That’s right, Day One includes sessions such as “Follow the Leader,” “Where’s My Desk?,” “It Is What It Is – Deal With It!” and “You Want What?”!

These sessions are geared toward convention services professionals within CVBs, hotels, and convention and conference facilities. The sessions focus on leadership, organizational skills, dealing with our internal and external customers, conflict/resolution, and how to get what you need from your clients.

Day two of the conference will be all about YOU, the convention service professional! Themed “It’s All About Me!,” the curriculum includes an opening session called “Pulling Rabbits Out of a Hat,” and sessions “Sales Skills for the CSM,” “On-line Learning,” by Patti J. Shock, CPCE, chairman of the Tourism & Convention Administration Department at UNLV, and “How to Get the Job You Want.”

Both days of the program will include a “Problem-Solving” lunch whereby attendees will gather in small round-table discussions focusing on up-selling, generating revenues, and what we do to bring the customers back.

THE VENUE
This Conference will be held at the newly constructed Wynn Las Vegas, scheduled to open on April 28 th. The latest of Wynn’s grand properties includes 2,359 luxury rooms and 357 suites adorned with European bed linens, flat screen televisions, wireless internet access and separate bath and shower facilities.

As typical of most of the major grand hotels on the Vegas strip, The Wynn also includes 200,000 square feet of meeting and convention space, full-service business centers, 18 restaurants, nightclubs, lounges and a full-service spa and salon. Located on the site of what was the Desert Inn, Wynn and Tom Fazio designed a beautiful 18-hole championship golf course on the hotel grounds and included luxury shops such as Chanel, Vuitton, Manolo Blahnik, Dior, Cartier, Maserati and Ferrari.

After you have taken in the educational opportunities provided during ACOM’s two-day program, you will have time to lounge by one of the three luxurious pools, dine and dance, shop, golf or gamble in the Wynn Casino. Ah, so much to do….so little time!
